Rod Mullavey

Rod was born in Holbrook and after his early school days in Holbrook and Albury, he completed his accounting degree at the Riverina College of Advanced Education in Wagga Wagga.  Rod was admitted to the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia after further studies and was advanced to the status of a Fellow of the Institute in 1996, recognizing his contribution to the profession and his community involvement.

Rod first became a partner in the Albury office of Coopers & Lybrand in 1987, and he remained as a partner of PricwaterhouseCoopers following the merger of the two big 4 accounting firms.  He was also the Managing Partner of Johnsons MME as the firm became a locally owned practice in 2000.

Rod practices in the Business Services division of the firm, providing tax and business advice to emerging family owned business clients in a diverse range of industries.  He has wonderful clients in the farming, water, transport, manufacturing and building industries and provides the full range of services to those businesses.

Rod has a particular strength in succession planning involving restructuring and business planning, being able to build relationships with the different generations within family groups to enhance the likely success of the process.

Rod sits on the ATO Primary Production Forum which meets bi annually in Canberra and is able to be an advocate for resolving taxation issues affecting farming businesses.  He has done significant work in the water industry with successful submissions to Treasury regarding previously unforeseen capital gains tax implications for Irrigation Infrastructure operators and irrigators.
Rod has a strong belief in the local region.  His decades of strong involvement in Ovens & Murray Australian Rules football, and particularly with North Albury Football and Netball Club has seen Rod in the roles of chairman of selectors for the North Albury Football Club, a selector for the Ovens & Murray Representative team for a nine year period, and he has also been a selector at Victorian Country level.  He is also a life member of the North Albury Football Club.

Rod and his wife Jenny enjoy their time with their four children and their grandchildren.  Both Rod and Jen ride sports bikes, covering many a mile over the coast of the eastern states of Australia and New Zealand, enjoying great food and wine at day's end.  They also share a love of contemporary music.
