A number of business support packages have recently been announced. A summary of these packages is outlined below. 

Victorian Business Resilience Package

The Victorian government has released a new round of grants to support businesses during the COVID-19 restrictions.

Victoria - Business Support Fund (Round Three)

Available Grants
  • $10,000 if its annual payroll is less than $650,000.
  • $15,000 if its annual payroll is between $650,000 and $3 million.
  • $20,000 if its payroll is between $3 million and $10 million.
Who Can Apply

Eligible applicants must:
  • Operate a business located within Victoria.
  • Be a participant in the Commonwealth Government's JobKeeper Payment scheme.
  • Employ people and be registered with WorkSafe.
  • Have an annual payroll of less than $10 million in 2019-20.
  • Be registered for Goods and Services Tax (GST).
  • Hold an Australian Business Number (ABN).
  • Be registered with the responsible Federal or State regulator.
More information including the eligible activities and assessment criteria will be published during the coming days. The grant is due to open on Friday 18 September 2020.

Victoria – CBD Small Business Hospitality Grant

Available Grants
  • $5,000 for a business with food service seating capacity of 11 to 100 seats.
  • $15,000 for a business with food service seating capacity of 101 seats or more.
Who Can Apply

Eligible applicants include businesses that must:

  • Be a recipient of a Business Support Fund – Expansion grant and may have received an invitation to apply for a CBD Small Business Hospitality Grant.
  • Operate a business with an address located in the Melbourne CBD, including the postcodes 3000 (Melbourne), 3005 (World Trade Centre), 3006 (Southbank) and 3008 (Docklands).
  • Operate a restaurant, cafe, pub, bar, club, reception centre, coffee and dessert outlet or takeaway food venue with food service seating capacity of 11 seats or more.
  • Hold a Class 2 or 3 Service Sector Certificate of Registration under the Food Act 1984 (Vic).
  • Not have received funding assistance through the Night-time Economy Business Support Initiative or the Victorian Live Music Venues Program.

Eligible Activities

Eligible activities include:

  • Meeting business costs, including utilities, salaries or rent.
  • Seeking financial, legal or other advice to support business continuity planning.
  • Developing the business through marketing and communications activities.
  • Any other supporting activities related to the operation of the business.

Victoria – Hospitality Business Grant Program

Available Grants
  • Grants of up to $25,000 (excluding GST) are available.
  • An additional $5,000 will be available for each additional premises located within the Melbourne Metropolitan LGAs or Mitchell Shire, capped at $20,000.
Who Can Apply

Eligible applicants include businesses that must:
  • Operate a business with premises located in Victoria; and
  • Operate a restaurant, cafe, pub, bar, club, reception centre, coffee and dessert outlet or takeaway food venue that serves patrons and hold a Class 2 or 3 Service Sector Certificate of Registration under the Food Act 1984 (Vic).
  • Have an annual payroll of greater than $3 million and lower than $10 million in 2019-20.
  • Be registered for Goods and Services Tax (GST) on 30 June 2020.
  • Hold an Australian Business Number (ABN) and have held that ABN at 30 June 2020.
  • Be registered with the responsible Federal or State regulator.
  • Not have received funding under the Victorian Live Music Venues Program and/or the Business Support Fund - Expansion program.

  • Meeting business costs, including utilities, salaries or rent.
  • Seeking financial, legal or other advice to support business continuity planning.
  • Developing the business through marketing and communications activities.
  • Any other supporting activities related to the operation of the business.

Sole Trader Support Grant

Available Grant

  • $3,000 grant for eligible Sole traders.
This $3,000 Grant will be eligible to Sole traders in the hardest hit sectors such as retail, accommodation and food services, creative and media, hairdressing, gyms, events, education and training. To be eligible for this grant sole traders must operate from a commercial premises or location as a tenant.

Albury City Council

Hardship Rates Relief Program

The Albury City Council has established a financial assistance program for residential ratepayers who are having difficulty paying their rates as a direct result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Who Can Apply
  • Residential ratepayers who have had an income reduction of 30% in the six-month period from 1 April – 30 September 2020 as a direct result of COVID-19.
Available Assistance
  • Up to 50% of total rates payable for the period 1 April to 30 September 2020.
  • Credited to the ratepayers account for each property.
  • Applicable only to residential ordinary rates.
How to Apply
  • Complete a Statutory Declaration.
  • Statutory Declaration required to be signed by the ratepayer and witnessed by a justice of the peace.
  • Detail how the COVID-19 pandemic has directly impacted the property owner's earning capacity and relief being requested.
  • Detail employer name and contact information including their ABN.
  • Submit to the Albury City Council in person or email info@alburycity.nsw.gov.au.
Application Timelines
  • Applications will be accepted from 1 August 2020.
  • Applications will be assessed on a case by case basis.
  • Applicants will be notified of assessment outcome via email/letter.
